Service

Answer engine optimization services for pages that answer first

AEO makes each page give a clear, quotable answer to a real buyer question. We rewrite your priority pages so AI engines can lift the answer and name you.

AEO work is part of the GEO Pilot: $999 USD, one time, inside 30 days.

The idea is older than ChatGPT. Featured snippets, voice assistants and People Also Ask boxes all rewarded pages that answered a question cleanly. AI engines raised the stakes, because now the answer is often the whole experience and the click may never happen.

On this page we cover what AEO changes on a page, how AEO and GEO differ, how we do it inside the 30 day Pilot, and the limits. If you want the wider picture first, start with our generative engine optimization services overview.

Why it matters

What changes when the answer is the product

A classic page often opens with a story, a brand statement or a long introduction. That works for a human who is already sold. It is poor input for an engine that is looking for one sentence to answer one question.

When an engine builds an answer, it often looks for short passages that stand on their own. A passage that begins with a pronoun, or relies on a heading three screens up, loses meaning once it is lifted out. A passage that states the subject, gives the answer and adds one useful detail survives being quoted.

None of this is magic, and none of it guarantees a citation. It removes friction. If two pages hold the same facts and only one makes them easy to extract, the easy one is more likely to be used. That is a reasonable bet, and it is the one AEO makes.

  • Each key question has its own heading, written as buyers actually ask it.
  • The first sentence under the heading answers the question directly.
  • Supporting detail follows: numbers you can source, conditions, exceptions.
  • The passage still makes sense when read alone.

Answer ready page

What an answer ready page has

  • ✓Answer in the first one or two sentences
  • ✓Question style headings that match buyer wording
  • ✓Short paragraphs, one idea each
  • ✓FAQs written from real questions
  • ✓Schema that matches visible text
  • A warm up story before the answer
  • Markup for content that is not on the page
Example checklist drawn from this page. A tick removes friction and does not promise a citation.

What we change

The anatomy of an answer ready page

We rework the page you already have. We do not write filler to hit a word count.

We start with the buyer prompts you care about and match each to a page. If no page answers a prompt, we flag it in the roadmap. If a page covers five topics at once, we split the structure so each topic has a clear heading and a direct answer.

Then we add the supporting parts. FAQs that reflect real questions from sales calls and search data. Lists and tables where they make comparison easier. Definitions for terms your buyers misuse. Structured data that matches what is visible, such as FAQ or Service markup, never markup for content that is not on the page.

  • Answer in the first one or two sentences
  • Question style headings that match buyer wording
  • Short paragraphs, one idea each
  • FAQs with 2 to 4 sentence answers
  • Schema that mirrors visible content

Where answers get used

The surfaces AEO is written for

Each surface behaves a little differently. We test your prompts on them rather than assume.

Google AI Overviews and AI Mode

Google says a page needs to be indexed and eligible to show a snippet to be used as a supporting link. No special markup is required. Read more on our AI Overviews page.

ChatGPT

When ChatGPT searches, it draws on sources and shows links. Clear, extractable pages help. See ChatGPT SEO.

Perplexity

Perplexity answers with numbered sources, so direct answers and trustworthy pages matter. See Perplexity SEO.

Gemini and Claude

Both can use web results for some questions. They reward the same basics: reachable, clear, consistent pages.

Microsoft Copilot

Copilot is tied to Bing's index, so Bing indexing hygiene is part of the work.

Voice and assistants

Spoken answers need very short, unambiguous statements. Direct answers help here too.

How we do it

AEO inside the 30 day GEO Pilot

  1. 1

    Week 1: Find the questions

We build a set of up to 20 buyer prompts, test them across five AI engines, and note which pages (yours or others) are being used as sources.

  2. 2

Week 2: Fix what blocks extraction

Technical issues come first. If a crawler cannot reach a page, or the answer only appears after scripts run, no rewrite will help. See technical GEO.

  3. 3

Week 3: Rewrite up to 10 pages

We restructure your priority pages: direct answers, question headings, FAQs and matching schema. We keep your brand voice and your facts. You approve before anything goes live.

  4. 4

    Week 4: Retest and report

The same prompts run again. You get a before and after report and a 90 day roadmap for the next pages.

Example

What a rewrite looks like in practice

Suppose a managed IT company has a services page that opens with two paragraphs about its history. The page does mention annual maintenance contracts, but the explanation is spread across a long section titled Our Approach.

We would add a heading such as What does an IT annual maintenance contract cover? Directly under it, we would write a plain two or three sentence answer that names what is included and what is not. Below that, a short list of typical inclusions, then a small FAQ on pricing models, response times and contract length. Each part carries only facts the company can stand behind.

That is the pattern behind the Emtech work, where a Dubai IT AMC company became cited for IT AMC queries across several engines. Read the Emtech case study for the details. It is one client in one market, not a promise.

Rule we apply: if we cannot support a sentence with something you can show a buyer, it does not go on the page.

Quick answer

How do you optimize a page to be the direct answer in AI results?

Put a short, complete answer directly under the heading that asks the question, then support it. The answer should make sense if lifted out alone: name the subject, state the fact, add the one condition that matters. Two to three sentences is usually enough. Everything else on the page exists to back that answer up, not to delay it.

This sounds obvious, and most business pages still fail it. They open with a mission statement, a stock photo and a paragraph about the company's passion. The useful fact arrives in the fourth screen. An answer engine, or a person in a hurry, never gets there.

The rest of this page covers the question types, the page pattern, the schema decision, the review process we follow, and the limits of AEO. If you want the wider picture first, start with generative engine optimization.

Question types

Definition

What is it?

  • One or two sentence definition
  • Then scope
  • Then who needs it

How to

Steps a buyer follows

  • Short intro
  • Numbered steps
  • One line of reason per step

Comparison and cost

Which, or how much?

  • Direct verdict with conditions
  • Table of differences
  • What drives the cost
Example shapes taken from the question type table on this page.

Compare

Which question types need which kind of answer?

Question typeExample wordingAnswer shape that works
DefinitionWhat is an IT annual maintenance contract? One or two sentence definition, then scope, then who needs it
How toHow do I prepare for a roof inspection?Short intro, numbered steps, one line per step with the reason
ComparisonManaged service or in house support, which is better?Direct verdict with conditions, then a table of differences
CostHow much does a website audit cost? What drives the cost, a clear statement of what you do or do not publish, next step
EligibilityWho qualifies for this service?Plain list of who does and does not, with the exception stated
Local or choiceBest accountant for a small online store in LondonWho you suit, where you work, how you are different in fact, not slogan

Match the shape to the question. A cost question answered with a definition frustrates the reader and gives an engine nothing to quote.

Method

How we rewrite a page to be answer ready, step by step

  1. 1

Pick the one question the page must answer

One page, one primary question, phrased the way a buyer would say it. Pages that try to answer six questions answer none well.

  2. 2

    Write the answer first

Two to three sentences under the main heading. Name the subject, state the answer, give the key condition. No warm up.

  3. 3

Turn headings into questions or tasks

Replace vague headings like Our Approach with the question a buyer has: How does the audit work? What does it cost? Who is it for?

  4. 4

    Make each section stand alone

The first sentence under a heading should work without the paragraph above. Avoid references like as mentioned earlier.

  5. 5

    Add the evidence

Dates, scope, named standards, real constraints. If you cannot support a claim, cut it or soften it.

  6. 6

    Add an honest FAQ

Five to eight real questions from sales calls and support, with short answers. Our FAQ Schema Generator produces matching markup.

  7. 7

Check the markup matches the page

Structured data must describe visible content. We validate it and compare it with the rendered text.

  8. 8

    Test the same prompts again

We rerun the baseline prompts after changes and record what moved.

5

Formats

Which content formats do answer engines handle well?

Structure helps extraction. Decoration does not.

Clean lists, short tables and well labelled steps are easy to lift. A table that compares three options on four facts can be quoted almost whole. A numbered procedure keeps its order. A definition list gives each term a boundary.

Walls of text, text inside images, accordions that load on click, and PDFs with no HTML equivalent are harder. They are not forbidden, but if the answer lives only there, you are asking the engine to work harder than a competitor's page asks it to.

  • Use real HTML headings, lists and tables, not styled paragraphs
  • Keep key facts in text, not in images or sliders
  • Give each table a clear header row and plain labels
  • Offer an HTML version of anything important that sits in a PDF

Schema decision

Do you need FAQ schema, and when does it help?

FAQ markup is structured data that labels questions and answers on a page. It is useful as a clear signal of the question and answer pairs you already show to readers. It is not a switch that makes an engine cite you. Google Search Central has also limited how FAQ rich results appear in its own results over time, so do not build a strategy around the visual effect.

Our rule is simple. Add FAQ markup only when the page has a visible FAQ written for readers. Make the markup match the text exactly. Keep answers short and honest. Use schema markup for AI search for the wider picture on Organization, Service, Product and Article types, and the technical GEO page for how we validate it.

Hidden FAQ text, answers copied across many pages, and questions nobody asks are the common mistakes. They add weight without meaning.

If you can not point to the same question and answer on the visible page, do not mark it up.

Example, hypothetical

A before and after rewrite for a service page

Example, hypothetical: a managed IT support company has a page called Our Services. It opens with: We are a passionate team dedicated to your success. The first useful fact, that it offers fixed monthly support for small offices, appears eleven paragraphs down.

After a rewrite, the page is titled Managed IT support for small offices. The first lines under the heading say what the service is, who it suits, what it covers and how it is priced in structure (monthly, per user, or per device) without inventing a number. Below that sit short sections: What is included, What is not included, How onboarding works, How incidents are handled, Questions we hear before signing. Each section opens with its own direct sentence.

None of this requires a new design. It is an editorial and structural job, and it is what week 3 of the Pilot covers for up to 10 pages. See GEO content strategy for how we pick those pages.

Where answers appear

Platform notes for answer ready content

Same principle, different details. Facts dated October 2026.

Google AI Overviews and AI Mode

Google says AI features draw on content that is indexed and eligible to show in Search, with no special markup required. Basics apply: crawlable, helpful, accurate. See our Google AI page.

ChatGPT search

OpenAI documents separate crawlers for search and for training, so you can allow search and make a separate choice on training. See ChatGPT SEO.

Perplexity

Answers show numbered source links, so a page with a clean, quotable passage has a visible path to a citation. See Perplexity SEO.

Quality control

How we check an answer before it goes live

Every rewritten answer goes through the same checks. Is it accurate? Is it complete enough to stand alone? Does it say something a competitor page does not? Does it avoid claims we cannot support? Is the wording plain enough to read aloud?

We also check what the answer must not do. It must not promise outcomes. It must not copy another site's phrasing. It must not claim you are the best without a basis a reader could verify. You approve each change before it goes live, because you know your business better than we do.

Small businesses often ask whether this makes their writing sound robotic. It should not. Plain and direct is not the same as flat. The tone stays yours. The structure changes.

  • Accurate against your own source of truth
  • Complete enough to be quoted alone
  • Specific, not generic
  • No promises or unverifiable superlatives
  • Approved by you before publishing

The problem

Common AEO mistakes we fix

Answers buried below the fold

The page explains everything except the answer until the fourth screen. Engines and readers both give up.

Headings that sound clever but say nothing

Titles like Our Philosophy match no buyer question. Plain question headings get matched to prompts.

FAQ markup on content that is not visible

Schema must mirror the visible page. Markup that does not match is a risk and gives no benefit. Our FAQ Schema Generator produces markup you can pair with real FAQ text.

One page for everything

A single page that tries to answer ten different questions answers none of them well.

Measurement

How do you know an answer ready rewrite worked?

Start with the baseline. Before changing a page, record which engines name you for the page's main question, which sources they cite, and what they say. Use the same wording each time, note the date, and test on more than one day because answers vary.

After the rewrite, wait for recrawling, then repeat the test. Look at three outcomes. Are you named where you were not? Is your page cited as a source? Is what the engine says about you accurate? Treat each as a separate result. A page can be cited without being named, and named without being cited. Our post on brand mentions versus citations explains why the split matters.

Be careful with small changes. If one prompt flips from absent to present, that is encouraging, not proof. If ten of twenty flip, the pattern is stronger. Either way the report states the sample size and the limits. For the method in full, read how to measure GEO performance.

Also watch classic signals. Impressions and clicks for the question in Google Search Console can move when a page gets clearer. They are a separate evidence stream and should be reported separately, not blended into one score.

Keep a simple log of every page you changed, the date, and the reason. When a result moves, the log tells you which change to credit and which to doubt. Without it, teams argue from memory and repeat the same experiments.

  • Same prompts, same wording, dated
  • Mention, citation and accuracy recorded separately
  • Sample size stated in the report
  • Search Console data kept as its own evidence

Limits

What AEO cannot do

AEO cannot make an engine cite you. It cannot fix a weak reputation, missing reviews or thin products. It cannot overcome a site that blocks crawlers. If your competitors have far more third party coverage, better pages alone may not be enough, and we will tell you that in the roadmap.

Engines also change. A format that earns snippets this quarter may matter less next quarter. The facts here are accurate as of October 2026 and we recommend retesting your prompts regularly. Our GEO content strategy page explains how we plan content beyond the first ten pages.

  • No guarantee of a citation, snippet or traffic
  • One domain and one language in the Pilot
  • Ongoing page work after the Pilot is quoted separately

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is an AEO agency?

An AEO agency structures your content and markup so answer engines, snippets and AI assistants can pull correct answers from your site. Ours does the rewriting and implementation itself. We also test the result across five AI engines.

What is the difference between AEO and GEO?

AEO is mostly page level: direct answers, question headings, FAQs and schema. GEO is wider and includes crawler access, entity consistency, third party mentions and measurement. In our work, AEO is a core part of GEO.

Is AEO the same as featured snippet optimization?

It grew from it. Snippet optimization targets one result box on one search engine. AEO covers the same habits but applies them to AI answers across several engines as well.

Do I need FAQ schema for AEO?

Not as a requirement. FAQ markup can help machines read your questions, but the visible text matters more. Google states that no special schema is needed for AI features. We add schema only when it matches the page.

How many pages can you optimize in the Pilot?

Up to 10 priority pages inside the 30 day GEO Pilot, on one domain in one language. After that, further pages are quoted.

Can AEO hurt my normal SEO?

Done well, no. Clearer headings and direct answers also help human readers. We avoid stuffing and we keep your existing keyword targets in mind when we change a page.

How do you check that it worked?

We test the same buyer prompts before and after on five AI engines and compare who is named and which sources are cited. Results vary by day and by engine, so we report direction and caveats.

How do I get my business to appear as the answer in ChatGPT or Google?

You cannot force it, but you can make it easier. Put clear, accurate, quotable answers on pages that crawlers can reach, keep your facts consistent across the web, and test the real questions buyers ask. Then repeat the test over time, because engines change.

What is a good length for a direct answer?

Two to three sentences, usually 40 to 80 words, is a practical target for the lead answer under a heading. Longer detail should follow below it. There is no official word count that guarantees selection, so write for clarity first.

Should every page have an FAQ?

No. Add an FAQ where readers genuinely have recurring questions. A forced FAQ with filler questions adds length and no value. Five to eight real questions on the most important pages is a better rule than an FAQ everywhere.
